Lake District & Northumberland Coast
Join these two skilled Kase UK affiliated photographers for a day of tuition and fun.
20th March 2026– Lake District / Borrowdale Valley
Morning
- Borrowdale Valley taking in Derwent Water and Manesty
- Guided session on using light direction, layering, and foreground interest in woodland.
- Up to Ashness bridge and surrounding woodland with a chance of a short hike up to an overlook down Borrowdale valley. Chance to use telephoto for picking out details in the landscape. (Depending on group fitness)
- Coffee/snack break, with focus on simplifying woodland chaos and identifying natural leading lines.
Lunch
- Packed Lunch or we can eat in Keswick
Afternoon
- We can then move on to Langstrath to explore the various pools along the beck, perfect for more intimate compositions. The oak trees lining the water are full of character and offer plenty of photographic interest.
Alternatively, we can head into the woodlands along the shores of Derwentwater, an area of temperate rainforest rich with moss-covered trees, lichens, and ferns. These sheltered woodlands offer endless opportunities for intimate, detail-driven photography, especially in soft or overcast light. The combination of ancient trees, tangled roots, and moisture in the air creates a timeless, almost primeval feel—ideal for slowing down and really refining composition and seeing.
- Closing circle: recap learnings, Q&A, feedback.
All of this is, of course, subject to change depending on the weather conditions on the day. That said, there’s no need to worry—this area offers a wealth of alternative locations, allowing us to adapt plans as needed and still make the most of the conditions we’re given. Flexibility is key, and changing weather often presents new and unexpected photographic opportunities.

21st March 2026 – Northumberland Coast (Seascapes & Dramatic Castles)
Morning
- Bamburgh Castle – An iconic seascape location set above a sweeping sandy beach, offering excellent opportunities for long-exposure photography using filters. The foreground rocks and coastal grasses provide strong compositional elements, allowing for creative framing and added depth, while the castle itself offers a dramatic and timeless focal point.
- Small Details along the coast
- Coffee break & composition chat.
Lunch
- Food can be arranged in Bamburgh or nearby Seahouses, both offering a good selection of cafés and pubs. Alternatively, you’re very welcome to bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
Afternoon
- Dunstanburgh Castle offers a variety of unique shooting opportunities. You can get up close to the water, using the renowned “Death Rocks” as a dramatic foreground—tide permitting and always keeping safety in mind, as these rocks can be treacherous
- There’s also the option to approach the castle from the opposite side. This angle is photographed less often but still offers plenty of creative possibilities for composition and perspective.
- Option to discuss blending natural/cultural subjects.
- Closing circle: recap learnings, Q&A, feedback.
