Jack Lodge – Kase Ambassadors Interview
Kase Ambassador Interview – Jack Lodge
Want to know a little more about our ambassadors? We asked them some questions.
Q1 – Tell us a little about yourself and your achievements?
I first picked up a camera back in 2016 after graduating from university with a degree in architecture, and since then, it has been an ever-growing passion that I couldn’t live without. For the first few years I shot a lot of street and travel photography, learning the basic controls, and how composition and natural light played a vital role in telling a story.
Living and growing up in Dorset, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and coastal scenery, it was only a matter of time until I got into landscape photography – this is where I got really hooked. Now, three years later, I dedicate most of my spare time to capturing natural landscapes in their finest conditions and wouldn’t change it for the world.
Still being early on in my photography career and always looking to improve, I feel like my journey into landscape photography has only just begun and feel extremely fortunate (and thankful) to Kase UK for inviting me to become a Brand Ambassador in 2019. Over the past twelve months, I’ve hosted local exhibitions, designed and produced my own calendar, become a regular contributor for the likes of Sony UK, Zeiss, BBC Earth and Springwatch, and over the coming months, am hosting workshops and photography talks with Sony UK.
Q2 – What’s your photography style?
I love shadows, the power and beauty of natural light, misty, magical conditions and the drama you can capture by shooting moody seascapes. For most of my shots I am shooting ultra-wide, which allows me to get nice and close to the foreground and give real depth to the final photograph.
One thing I would recommend to anyone, and what has really helped me appreciate the natural beauty of nature is to shoot the seasons, in the conditions that do them justice. If I was being honest, clear blue skies are my worst nightmare and summer months can be a great time to rest from the early mornings and spend my time scouting for compositions to capture during in Autumn.
Q3 – What equipment do you use?
Main Camera: Sony A7RIII
Lenses: Zeiss Batis 18mm F2.8, Sony Zeiss 55mm F1.8 and Sony 24-105mm F4
Filters: Selection of Kase Filters with my most commonly used filters being a Circular Polariser, .6 Stop Hard-Edge Graduated Filter and 3 Stop ND Filter
Tripod: Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fibre Tripod
L-Plate: Gitzo GSLBRSY Alpha L-Bracket
Bag: Lowepro Whistler 450 AW II
Q4 – Why Kase Filters?
After years of using resin filters, getting drenched by sea water that took ages to buff clean and frustrated with polarisers getting stuck, I was on the lookout for filters that could let me focus more on my photography and worry less about the equipment I am using.
As soon as I invested into the Kase Filters I couldn’t believe what I was missing out on. I find that the image quality is better, I no longer worry about smear marks and with no unwanted colour cast, it saves valuable time in post-processing. When you think about it, using high-quality lenses to get images as sharp as possible, and then putting resin filters in front of the element doesn’t make a lot of sense – glass filters really are the future.
Q5 – Where can people see your work?
I have a constant presence on the likes of Facebook and Instagram, where I upload all my latest work, behind the scene videos and interactive stories. Every few months I also review my website and upload a selection of my favourite shots to my portfolio.
